Say yes.
Say yes to the silly things. Say yes to the impractical.
Sunday I said yes.
When Mike asked me to go outside and run in the rain, I was tempted to say no. I may have even said “Seriously?”.
All the thoughts in my head went straight for practicality. I’d be soaking wet, probably cold after. I didn’t want to deal with sopping wet clothes.
Even though Sal and Luca were outside, in the pouring rain, having a blast with their dad. Enjoying the warm summer downpour. Exactly as it should be.
What I want for them, I sometimes struggle for myself.
I gave in to frivolity.
Me. Being frivolous.
I am reasonable, practical, and as I have been lovingly dubbed by Mike, a fun sucker 
Sometimes I need to be reminded of that.
So I said yes. I raced that amazing long legged man to the top of the driveway, in the pouring rain 
mascara running down my face, with as much speed as I could muster. Smiling the whole way, I sprinted barefoot across the rain soaked gravel, so thankful for the man who encourages me to let practicality go occasionally and say yes to the silly things.
And when we got back to the house, we stood under the cover of the porch roof with their dad watching the boys do baseball slides through the mud.
I dripped my way to the bathroom to grab the soap and they followed up with a shower under the eaves.
That’s what summers are made of
